On the same day a lawsuit against Gervonta “Tank” Davis for allegedly punching a parking lot attendant in the chest became public, he finalized his megafight with fellow boxing star Ryan Garcia for April 22.
The fight will be contested at 136 pounds, one-pound above the lightweight limit, making this a catchweight bout. Davis is currently the WBA (regular) lightweight world champion, a title he’s held since Dec. 28, 2019. Davis and Garcia are the No. 2 and No. 3 lightweights in the world, according to Ring Magazine’s rankings.
The long-rumored bout had yet to be signed until recently, and all parties announced that the fight will take place at a Las Vegas venue to be named, airing on Showtime Pay-Per-View and DAZN Pay-Per-View, ESPN reports. Given that each fighter has different affiliations — Davis commonly fights on Showtime under the Premier Boxing Champions banner, while Garcia is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and fights on DAZN — the business side took longer to come together, per multiple reports.

Superfights of this level often aren’t made, at least in part because of network affiliations, though they still happen occasionally. Though it took much longer to materialize, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquaio was jointly aired by HBO and Showtime PPV in 2015, and the Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder rematches aired on both ESPN and FOX PPV platforms in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
Davis took to Twitter to express his excitement about finalizing his superfight with Garcia.

Garcia did the same, sharing a poster for the event with his name on the A-side, though it’s officially listed on boxrec.com — the chief digital database of historical boxing records — in the reverse.
Garcia’s promoter and boxing Hall Of Famer Oscar De La Hoya also voiced his excitement for the pending contest.

Davis, who’ll enter the fight at 28-0 with 26 knockouts, most recently dispatched undefeated Hector Luis Garcia, retiring him on his stool after nine rounds, on Jan. 7 in his hometown of Washington D.C.
Garcia, who stands at 23-0 with 19 knockouts, most recently knocked out lightweight contender Javier Fortuna last July.
Regarding Davis’ legal troubles, he most recently pled guilty to a 2020 hit-and-run, and his sentencing will be on May 5, approximately two weeks after the signed fight with Garcia.
Davis was also arrested for domestic violence in late December, but the woman in question — who is the mother of their daughter — later retracted this claim.
