SEATTLE — Gerrit Cole will be a star of stars. Or maybe a starter of stars.
Cole will be named the starter for Tuesday’s All-Star Game, which will be the first time Cole gets the ball to open the Midsummer Classic, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported.
Cole, now a six-time All-Star, has only pitched in one game, back in 2015.
But the opportunity to start it will prompt a second appearance, and he will become the first Yankee to start the All-Star Game since Roger Clemens in 2001.
“One of these days, I would really like to start it,” Cole said last week. “I gotta check that one off. But I’m not sure how that shakes out over the next week.”
The 32-year-old ace pitched 7 ⅓ innings Saturday, so he will be pitching on just two days rest.
Cole, who went 9-2 with a 2.85 ERA in a brilliant first half, got the nod over aces such as the Rangers’ Nathan Eovaldi, who went 10-3 with a 2.83 ERA.
American League manager Dusty Baker also could have turned to Luis Castillo (2.85 ERA), who will be pitching in his home of T-Mobile Park.
