NextImg:George Pickens makes insane one-handed catch at Steelers’ training camp

George Pickens showed a glimpse of what he could do during his rookie season in 2022.

But if his training camp this summer with the Steelers is any indication of how his 2023 will turn out, he’s in for a monster year.

Going up against 2023 second-round pick Joey Porter Jr. in drills Tuesday, Pickens and the defensive back battled over a deep ball before the wideout snagged a one-handed grab that you had to see to believe.

At around the 20-yard line, Pickens, 22, turned around for a back-shoulder throw, leaped in the air and caught the pass with one hand before falling on his back on the 19-yard-line as the crowd erupted at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa.

“I felt bro on my shoulder and was like, ‘Where did the ball go?’” Porter Jr. said, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Then he came down with it. It was crazy, definitely crazy.

“At the end of the day, we are teammates, and we want the best out of each other,” Porter Jr. said, “so we are going to talk, doing a little extra hand there.

“But it’s never going to get past that point. Like coach always says, ‘We’re a professional team, not an MMA team,’ so we are gonna keep it like that.”

The catch came a day after he told The Ringer that he’s not only one of the top talents in the game, but that’s he’s the “best” receiver out there.

“The stuff that I do, bro, I feel like I’m the best in the whole world,” Pickens told the outlet. “I’m big, I’m fast, low 4.4 [speed]. Catch radius is crazy. So every time I get out on the field, I do kind of play angry because I should get the ball on every play if you just look at the size and the frame.

“If I was a coach, I’d just throw to him every time.”

Pickens, a University of Georgia product, reeled in 52 catches for 801 yards with four touchdowns in his rookie season with Pittsburgh last year.

If he can do more of what he showed in practice, maybe he does really have a chance to be one of the top wideouts in the game.
