General Hospital star Tristan Rogers revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Rogers, who is best known for playing Robert Scorpio on the ABC soap opera, announced the news in a press release via his representative, according to Deadline.

“While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family,” the statement reads. “As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from their friends and family.”

The statement concluded with a message form the 79-year-old actor.

“Tristan sends his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years.  This support means more to him now than ever. Future updates will be shared if deemed appropriate by Tristan and his family,” it said.

Rogers originated the role of Robert Scorpio when he first appeared on the long-running soap opera in 1980. He has starred in over 1,000 episodes of General Hospital since, while also making appearances in the spinoff series General Hospital: Night Shift.

His last appearance on General Hospital was on Nov. 12, 2024, when his character left Port Charles with his ex-wife.

Rogers’ decades-long career also included roles in The Young and the Restless, The Bay, and The Bold and the Beautiful, as well as several voice acting credits throughout the years.

The actor earned a Daytime Emmy Award for his performance in Studio City.

General Hospital is currently on hiatus.
