Chad Duell, who has portrayed Michael Corinthos on General Hospital for 14 years, is departing the long-running ABC soap opera.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, Duell shared the news, stating, “After many incredible years with ‘General Hospital,’ I’ve decided to step away from the show. This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but it feels like the right time in my life. I’m beyond grateful to Frank Valentini, the cast, crew, and everyone behind the scenes who have been like family to me throughout this amazing journey.”

He concluded his message with heartfelt gratitude to his supporters: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unwavering support and for letting Michael Corinthos be a part of your lives,” Duell wrote. “Your love and encouragement has meant the world to me. This isn’t a goodbye — it’s a see you later.”

At this time, it remains uncertain whether the role of Michael will be recast.

Duell first stepped into the role of Michael in 2010, replacing Drew Garrett. The character is the son of A.J. Quartermaine (previously played by Sean Kanan) and Carly Spencer (currently portrayed by Laura Wright). In 2015, Duell received a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

In 2022, The Young and the Restless alum Robert Adamson temporarily took over as Michael for eight episodes and returned briefly to the role again in October of this year.

Duell’s exit follows the departure of another General Hospital veteran, Kelly Monaco, who left her role as Sam McCall in August after more than two decades on the show.
