When baker Amy Gastman was hiring for a baking assistant and barista, she was inundated with applications. But some stood out — for the wrong reasons.
London-based Gastman, the owner of the vegan bakery Eat by Amy, slammed prospective Gen Z workers for their unprofessional resumes and emails, which listed being a Harry Styles fan or having a “brat summer” as notable achievements or skills.
“The applications from Gen Z included things like brat summer, being Harry Styles’ number one fan, being skilled at getting tickets for sold-out concerts, an apathy for working,” the millennial baker told Newsweek.
“One person even included that they’re rubbish at baking even though the job is for a baking assistant.”
Taking to TikTok to share the discarded applications with her shocked audience, Gastman joked that she needed “a translator” in order to understand the references and reasonings behind Gen Z’s resumes.
One 23-year-old applicant emailed Gastman with her resume, noting that she is an “avid Harry Styles enthusiast with a superpower of being able to manage getting tickets to a sold out concert” — at “face value” no less.
Meanwhile, others included bracket smiley faces, winky faces and run-on sentences with no punctuation.
“Brat summer on a CV is mad,” commented one surprised viewer.

“It’s as if they’ve just stopped teaching spelling and grammar in schools,” languished another. “Their there and they’re wrong every single time.”
“They’re really writing like a dating profile,” joked someone else.
“As a millennial, thrilled to hear I have job security for many years to come,” quipped one person.
“Is this real?” another flabbergasted TikTokker wrote.
Gastman was primarily baffled by the lack of capital letters, which Gen Z viewers argued was because the lower case letters look “cuter.”
“I don’t need ur cv to be cute,” Gastman retorted.
Meanwhile, others saw the humor in some of the applications.
“They’re so unserious I love it lmao,” commented one user.
“As a millennial manager I’m calling the brat girl summer girl for an interview immediately,” added another.
“This is just not the kind of thing that I want when you’re gonna send me CVs and cover letters and whatever,” Gastman said. “I need some level of professionalism.”
