NextImg:From NY with love to Israel: Kids send letters of thanks to soldiers

These stirring pictures tell the story: From New York with love to Israel.

As the Israel-Hamas war rages, a New York family is among those who have not forgotten the soldiers doing battle.

Adina Selmar, her husband and four children were in Israel for the Jewish holidays when the attack began last week.

They are back in New York now, but their hearts are also overseas.

Selmar relayed that when the conflict broke out she was in a building in Jerusalem “without a safe room” and her family “ran with others to the stairwell during the sirens. My kids were eating pizza when the siren went off. One child pizza in one hand and held the flashlight in the other, as my other daughter prayed.”

A compelling photo shows the brave girls quietly praying.

Said Selmar: “It was honestly terrifying.”

Back home, the children are authoring words and drawings of encouragement to boost the morale of the troops.

“You are a hero,” one drawing says simply.

Another is more effusive: “Dear soldiers, thank you so much for everything you’ve done for us. You are brave. You are powerful. You have strength. You are beautiful. You are strong. You are a hero.”

The words and drawings have hit home with the soldiers giving thanks.

“If you’re wondering if the troops appreciate the letters and notes…,” one snap reads, depicting a tank adorned with the well-wishes.

Said Selmar of her family’s close call in Israel: “Thankfully they didn’t hit our area. We just kept praying. I told my children……God will protect us, but there were definitely trying times.”
