Fred Couples is turning back the hands of time at Augusta.
In the first round of The Masters, the 63-year-old Couples shot a 71 to finish at 1-under par.

Couples had bogeys on 5, 9 and 18, but made up for it with birdies on 12, 13, 15 and 17.
Couples has now shot 72 or under in 78 rounds at The Masters, good for second most all-time behind Jack Nicklaus, who has done it 93 times; Phil Mickelson is in third place on this record board, having accomplished the feat 73 times.
The 1992 Masters accounted for Couples’ lone major win, and he also won 15 PGA Tour tournaments and 14 times on the PGA Tour Champions senior circuit.
As LIV Golf has poached a number of well-known golfers including Phil Mickelson, Couples has remained a PGA Tour loyalist.

“If you’re willing to give Phil Mickelson $200 million at age 53 to shoot 74 and 75, God bless you,” Couples said derisively last month.
He also mocked LIV’s TV ratings on The CW.

“It was on the CW a couple weeks ago, or whatever that channel everybody is laughing about,” Couples said critically.
“I turned it on three times. It was so bad, I couldn’t even watch anyone that I liked. They don’t show ’em. … Who won the last one? I don’t even know.”
