Jaden Hullaby, a former football player at Texas and New Mexico, has died at the age of 21, both schools announced Monday.

On Sunday, a relative’s post on social media revealed Hullaby had been missing since Friday and the family was unable to “track any of his devices.”

Hullaby was last seen in Dallas, where he was from, but there has been no official announcement on the cause of death.

“Forever living through you big brudda,” his younger brother Landon, a defensive back at Texas Tech, wrote on Twitter with a series of photos. “I love you so much and I got you and the family forever I swear get your rest King.”

After playing quarterback and running back in high school, Hullaby was recruited by Texas in 2020 as a linebacker, only appearing in two games there, and redshirted the 2021 season before transferring to New Mexico, where he was both a running back and tight end.

“It’s such devastating and tragic news to hear of Jaden’s passing,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said in a statement. “He was a great person and someone we all enjoyed being around, coaching and spending time with. All of our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates, and we want to send our deepest condolences to them in such a difficult time.”

“The Lobo family is saddened to learn of the passing of former RB/TE Jaden Hullaby,” New Mexico said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jaden’s family and all who knew him.”

He played in eight games as a Lobo, starting one. He caught two passes for 44 yards for New Mexico last season to go with 59 yards on 13 carries.

Following the 2022 season, he entered the transfer portal.

Hullaby attended Mansfield Timberview High School and attended Bishop Dunne in his junior year in high school where he won a state title.
