A former New York City Council candidate was arrested this week for allegedly assaulting police officers during the Jan. 6 riot.
Mitchell Bosch, 44, of Brooklyn, was charged with felony offenses of civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding authorities, as well as several misdemeanors including engaging in physical violence in the Capitol building or grounds, the US Attorney’s Office said in a news release Wednesday.
Bosch – who ran for city council last year – was previously arrested at anti-vaccine protests at Burger King, Applebee’s, and a Cheesecake Factory.
He “can be seen in multiple instances” of video footage of the infamous 2021 riot “opposing the police advance by pushing directly against the officers, assisting other rioters in pushing against officers, and encouraging other rioters to oppose the police,” the affidavit viewed by The Post read.
The affidavit includes multiple video stills of a man believed to be Bosch wearing multiple red Trump hats in the Jan. 6 crowd.
Bosch also allegedly yelled “hold the line!’ when the unruly crowd started facing off the police officers, the write-up added.
He supposedly told a cooperating witness that he had “climbed the wall” into the Capitol complex, though the individual was unsure exactly what he meant.
Bosh allegedly said to the same witness that the riot was just “men being men,” the affidavit noted.
Google records confirmed that Bosch was at the Capitol during the incident, and referred to an Instagram post in which he suggested he was facing arrest for his role in the riot.
“Enjoying my last meal before the FBI comes for me,” Bosch allegedly posted on Jan. 19, 2021.
When investigators interviewed Bosch in August that year, the affidavit stated, he “became agitated” and insisted that the feds should focus on “what’s going on in Afghanistan, and not what happened in D.C..”
Bosch did not immediately respond to request for comment.
Bosch attempted to run as a Republican for a City Council seat in Brooklyn last year, but did not qualify for the ballot.
He wrote on a financial disclosure form tied to the federal case that he owned rental properties and was a retired member of the military, the New York Times reported.
One year after the riot, in January 2022, Bosch was also arrested at an anti-vax protest at the Museum of Natural History.
“I literally had to urinate inside a bottle inside the Museum of Natural History,” he wrote on social media at the time.”
