NextImg:Former LSU star Alexis Morris slams Tigers for South Carolina melee

Former LSU guard Alexis Morris torched her former team after an on-court scuffle broke out during the SEC championship between the Lady Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday.

Morris, who played a pivotal role in LSU’s 2023 NCAA championship run against Caitlin Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes, explained that the Lady Tigers’ current roster lacks leadership in a recent live stream that is circulating on social media.

“Either way it goes, that would not have happened,” Morris said, seemingly implying it would not have gone down if she were still on the team, in a livestream video after the incident, per multiple reports. “You gotta have a leader on the court.

“We don’t have a leader on the court to be like, ‘Hey, we not about to engage. We not about to initiate. We not about to start no type of confrontation.'”

Morris went on to say that her teammates were “scared” when she was a force on the offensive end and scored 23 points on 11-of-29 from the field in an 88-64 loss to South Carolina last season.

“You see what I did to South Carolina last year by myself,” she said. “I didn’t have — my team wasn’t ready. I can say it now. Yeah, I played against South Carolina by myself. My team was scared.”

Morris’ comments came after both benches cleared in a heated matchup at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, S.C.

Things got chippy when LSU guard Flau’Jae Johnson intentionally fouled Gamecocks guard MiLaysia Fulwiley after a steal.

As Johnson was heading to the Tigers’ bench, South Carolina forward Ashlyn Watkins then flexed in her direction and Johnson pushed her out of the way.

That’s when Gamecocks center Kamilla Cardoso approached Johnson and shoved her to the ground.

The benches cleared and Johnson’s brother, 24-year-old Trayron Milton, jumped over the scorer’s table and rushed the court.

Police said Milton pushed down an SEC employee and stepped on her shoulders to get to the court, where he briefly made contact with Cardoso before he was removed by police, per The Associated Press.

Milton was arrested and charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct for his role in the incident, and was released from jail Monday on bonds of $1,087.50 for each charge.

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley said Johnson apologized to her after the game.

LSU is on a pursuit to become repeat champions after its women’s basketball program won its first NCAA title last year — but the Tigers have to go through the Gamecocks to defend their title.

On Tuesday, Morris shared a previous photo of her during her playing days at LSU with head coach Kim Mulkey.

“BigBertha clipped my whole live to create a false narrative, I made it,” Morris wrote in part in her caption, adding a bunch of crying-laughing emojis.

Her former LSU teammates have yet to publicly respond to her comments.

Morris currently plays for the Harlem Globetrotters, and made her debut last month in Springfield, Mass.

The WNBA’s Connecticut Sun released Morris a month after selecting her in the second round (No. 22 overall) of the 2023 draft.

A transfer from Texas A&M before the the 2021-22 campaign, Morris played two seasons at LSU and scored 21 points in LSU’s 102-85 win over Iowa in the national championship.
