Bill Belichick’s UNC drama now has an added twist: recruiting theatrics.
Keshawn Stancil, a top-10 in-state defensive lineman recruit, called out Belichick in an Instagram post on Sunday, taking a shot at the legendary coach’s skills.
“I seen a bum commit to UNC,” Stancil wrote on a post accompanying him wearing NC State gear. “Then Bill called. I felt played, so I went to the owners.”
It’s not clear who the four-star lineman was referring to, but he did visit NC State over the weekend, one of five schools he announced he’d whittled down a sizable list to. Also included are Miami, Penn State, Georgia and Clemson.
Even though Stancil may not like the Tar Heels and Belichick, others still want to play in Chapel Hill.
Currently, North Carolina boasts the fifth-best 2026 recruiting class in the ACC and the 20th-best in the entire country.
Ironically, the Tar Heels’ best recruit is also a defensive lineman, Trashawn Ruffin. The Mt.Olive, N.C. native is ranked 14th in the state.
Belichick also had success in the transfer portal, landing the ninth-best transfer class in the country.
The fabled NFL coach is headed into his first season in the college ranks, armed with eight Super Bowl rings in his storied career, six as head coach of the Patriots.
He and New England split after the 2023 season and limited NFL interest drew him to North Carolina.

That’s not all that’s changed for Belichick, as he arrived on campus with 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson, who has been at the center of plenty of drama in the weeks since his Dec. 24, 2024 hiring.
His Tar Heels begin their 2025 campaign on Sept. 1 against TCU at 8 p.m.
Stancil will get a chance to back up his smack-talk when NC State faces UNC on Nov. 29.
