A high school football player in Florida is facing criminal charges for a brutal attack he launched on an opposing player during a game.

The incident happened one week ago in the game between Marianna and Blountstown.

Both schools are located in the Florida Panhandle.

A video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, while not great quality, shows the attack.

Multiple sources report it was Blountstown’s Gavin Lambeth who grabbed the helmet of Marianna’s Ethan Lipford.

Lambeth appeared to push Lipford’s head into the ground twice.

After the helmet came off, Lambeth used it to strike Lipford.

Following the attack, Lipford exhibited concussion-like symptoms, including slurred speech and trouble walking, mypanhandle.com reports.

As a result, he was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Neuro Center, according to CBS 42 in Birmingham, Ala.

Lipford was treated overnight for a “serious concussion” but was able to return home Saturday to continue his recovery.

Lipford’s family filed aggravated battery charges against Lambeth on Tuesday, according to mypanhandle.com.

Lambeth reportedly appeared before a judge on Wednesday “who ordered him to a juvenile facility while authorities and the State Attorney’s Office investigated the case.”

The Florida High School Athletic Association also has launched an investigation, and Lambeth has been suspended one game pending the outcome of the queries.
