Florida State just might be the most disappointing team in all of college football.
The Seminoles suffered a shocking 20-12 loss to unranked Memphis on Saturday, dropping to 0-3 on the young season after opening the year ranked No. 10 in both the Associated Press and Coaches preseason polls.
Their dreadful starts means they’re already guaranteed to fall short of their preseason over/under of 9.5 wins, becoming the first FBS to clinch the under this season, according to Action Network’s Brett McMurphy.
Florida State is coming off its best season in the Mike Norvell era, going 13-0 and winning the ACC before falling to Georgia in the Orange Bowl.
It’s been a much different story this season.
After coming in as the favorites in the conference, the Seminoles’ chances of being repeat ACC champs were all but dashed after a Week 0 loss to Georgia Tech as 10.5-point favorites.

A week later, they made matters even worse, falling to Boston College, this time as 16.5-point favorites.
Norvell’s club was a 6.5-point favorite before losing to the Tigers on Saturday.
Oddsmakers gave Florida State an outside shot at a national title, with BetMGM Sportsbook pegging them at +2500, the 10th-best odds in college football, at winning it all.
Those hopes are essentially dashed, and the toughest part of Florida State’s schedule is yet to come.
The Seminoles are set to play No. 10 ranked Miami, No. 18 Notre Dame and No. 22 Clemson in the coming months, putting the school in dangerously close territory to a potential losing season.
Florida State will take on ACC counterpart Cal next Saturday night in Tallahassee.
