Flavor Flav may have locked up strangest national anthem performance for the NBA season, even though it is less than a week old.
The rapper delivered the eccentric rendition at the Milwaukee Bucks home game on Sunday against the Atlanta Hawks.
“The anthem was a long time bucket list item … that was fun! I can’t live my life worried about what people might say about me,” he wrote on X. “I won’t let that stop me from trying new things and doing things I wanna do. Some people might not like that. But a sure failure is if you stop trying.”
Flavor Flav was decked out in a Bucks jersey, repping No. 59, referring to the year he was born.
The 64-year-old was blinged out in double gold watches, a sideways hat, white sunglasses and a flashy chain with a clock pendant.
Flav’s performance seemed to get a mixed reaction from those in attendance.
Several Milwaukee Bucks players were seen trying to hold in or hide their laughter and some of the crowd gave Flav a standing ovation.
“This wasn’t bad at all. He stayed in his lane and sang in his own key. Respect,” one user wrote.
However, fans were quick to compare the rapper’s performance with one of the most memorable national anthem performances in NBA history.
“Respectfully, still better than Fergie,” another user wrote to X, referring to Fergie’s much-maligned performance at the 2018 All-Star Game.
The Bucks failed to capitalize on the motivational performance.
The Hawks (1-2) defeated Milwaukee 127-110, picking up their first win of the season.
Atlanta held newest Bucks Damian Lillard to just six points following his 39-point game in his debut for the team.
The Bucks are now 1-1 on the season and take on the Heat on Monday night,
