Marvel’s “Madame Web” swings into theaters Valentine’s Day, and a first look at Sydney Sweeney’s Spider-Woman costume has just been unveiled.
The “Euphoria” star, 26, appears in the superheroine flick alongside “Fifty Shades of Grey” star Dakota Johnson in the role of Julia Carpenter, a.k.a. Spider-Woman.
The Chinese poster for the Sony-produced film features Sweeney donning a black and gray latex suit and a mask. White spider webs serve as accents on the bodysuit.
According to Marvel Comics lore, there is a stark difference between her outfit in the movie and on paper.
In the comic book series, Spider-Woman has white eyes on her mask. But on the poster, there is a cut-out for Sweeney’s eyes.
The film also stars Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin and Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon a.k.a. Araña.
The Madame Web character was first introduced in 1980’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” comic, issue number 210.
Johnson’s character is described as a mutant who can predict the future of Spidey superheroes.
The character is usually drawn as an elderly female who is blind and paralyzed. She is essentially surrounded by web-like machinery to help her live and stay safe.
“Madame Web” is Sony’s first female-led superhero movie and is the fourth film in the studio’s “Spider-Man” universe.
The flick follows arachnid-esque features “Venom” (2018), its sequel ”Venom Let There Be Carnage” (2020) and “Morbius” (2022).
Sweeney opened up to Variety in November 2022 and gushed over what it was like to work with Johnson.
The Washington native joked that she was nervous to film with the “How to Be Single” star because “she’s so hot.”
“I have to say — I snuck ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ in high school. My parents didn’t let me watch it, and I watched it. So I’m a huge fan of her,” Sweeney said.
The “Anyone But You” star has hefty plate for 2024, as she also has the projects “Eden,” “Echo Valley” and “Immaculate” under her belt.
She’s also set to star in an upcoming remake of the 1968 Jane Fonda film “Barbarella.”
