The budding friendship between Caitlin Clark, Lexie Hull and Sophie Cunningham has become a storyline WNBA fans have fallen in love with, and even more so on Sunday after Cunningham arrived at the game wearing a new custom shirt.
The Fever guard walked into T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas sporting a shirt that had the words “Tres Leches” written on it, along with a caricature portrait of Clark, Hull and Cunningham in the middle of the shirt in full Fever uniforms.
“Tres Leches” is a nickname that Fever fans have dubbed the trio and it’s clear the players have taken a liking to it.
Cunningham’s shirt created waves online as fans reacted to it.
“The shirt Sophie! Way to have your teammates back,” one person wrote on X.
“TRES LECHES LEZGO,” another persona added.
“I need that shirt!” a third person commented.
The shirt is being sold by Barstool Sports, whose founder Dave Portnoy is a well-documented fan of the Fever, and more specifically, Clark.
Cunningham was added to the Fever roster via a trade with the Mercury and she has become a fan favorite, with her popularity skyrocketing recently after vehemently defending Clark during a contentious game against the Mercury.
The guard committed a hard foul on Jacy Sheldon in retaliation for a foul earlier in the game on Clark, which many fans felt was not dealt with severely enough.
Cunningham herself criticized the refs following a practice on Saturday.
“I’m not focused on the extracurricular activities,” Cunningham said, “and you know what? During that, it was just part of the game. I think the refs had a lot to do with that, it was a build-up of a couple of years now of them just not protecting the star player of the WNBA. At the end of the day. I’m gonna protect my teammates, that’s what I do.”
