Sophie Cunningham couldn’t help herself when having a chance to take a friendly jab at her good friend Caitlin Clark.
Cunningham had a hilarious reaction to an X user posting two photos of her, one with a group of goats at some sort of zoo and the other featuring her hugging Clark inside an arena.
The user’s caption read, “these are the same picture,” in a nod to the idea of Clark being the GOAT of women’s basketball, even this early in her career.
Cunningham, 29, made sure to knock her friend down a peg in response.
“They smell the same too,” the Fever forward wrote in a quote tweet.
If anyone can take these types of fun shots at Clark, it’s Cunningham, who even in her first season with the Fever has become a staunch defender and protector of the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year.
She went on a profane rant on the debut of her “Show Me Something” podcast in July, railing against those to don’t believe Clark is the face of the WNBA.
“When people try to argue that [Clark] is not the face of our league or if our league would be where we’re at without her, you’re dumb as s–t,” Cunningham said.
“You’re literally dumb as f–k.”
Cunningham also defended Clark on the court during a fracas with the Connecticut Sun in June.
She, Clark and teammate Lexi Hull have become tight this season, with Clark roasting them about their tans on social media before the season began in May.
Injuries have limited Clark to just 13 games this season but the Fever are still in playoff possession in seventh place in the league at 18-16.
They also won the Commissioner’s Cup earlier this season.
Cunningham is averaging 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in 28 minutes.
She recently made headlines by alleging No. 1 pick Paige Buckers receives a favorable whistle, a topic close to those in the Fever organization due to the lack of calls they believe Clark gets.
