A feminist activist who works for ex-City Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s female-focused nonprofit marched in support of Palestine this week after Hamas thugs killed, raped and kidnapped dozens of Israeli women.
Emilia Vieira, the communications manager for Women in Need Inc., was among the more than 1,000 who marched in the controversial Oct. 8 rally, which included protesters who burned the Israeli flag and displayed swastikas.
Video of the event posted on YouTube by LLN NYC briefly shows the 20-something Vieira chanting “Free! Free Palestine!”
Quinn condemned Vieira’s attendance — though she declined to say if she’d discipline the employee, who began working for WIN last month.
“Hamas is a terrorist organization that attacked innocent people simply for being Jewish,” Quinn told The Post.
“WIN believes that it was in utterly poor taste to attend this disgusting rally in the wake of the slaughter and kidnapping of Jewish civilians, but in America, unlike Gaza, people have a right to engage in non-violent protest on their own time, no matter how offensive we think that protest is.”
Some Jewish members of the City Council were flabbergasted to learn a WIN staffer was at the rally.
“All New Yorkers should be horrified that an organization dedicated to saving battered women and children could employ someone with pro-Hamas values,” said Councilman Kalman Yeger (D-Brooklyn).
Republican Councilman Ari Kagan, who also reps Brooklyn, said he was especially troubled to hear a WIN employee attended “such a hateful event” considering the massive amount of taxpayer money the nonprofit receives.
WIN collected nearly $116 million in grants and contracts from New York City for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022, according to its latest audit.
It also took in $4.4 million from the state and $2.1 million from the feds.
Kagan called on Quinn, a Democrat, and WIN to fire Vieira unless she issues a public apology.
“It’s very sad that a high-level employee of a nonprofit that is supposed to be helping victims and protecting women participated in a pro-Hamas rally the very day after such a bloody massacre,” he fumed.
Vieira declined comment.
