One Ole Miss football fan’s post-game celebrations took a painful turn on Saturday night.
Moments after the Rebels’ dramatic 55-49 win over the 13th-ranked LSU Tigers, several Ole Miss supporters decided to rush the field at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss., to celebrate with the team.
A lonesome security guard tried to deter fans from getting onto the field, including one female Ole Miss supporter, who was elbowed in the neck by the guard in question.
The female fan immediately fell to the ground, according to footage of the moment now circulating on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The security guard’s forceful move triggered a concerned yelp from the crowd watching on, as heard in the X video that has been viewed more than six million times as of Monday.
The question as to why the security guard was even trying at that point remained a mystery to some X users.
“Everyone is already on the field. What is the benefit of knocking over that poor girl?” one X user asked.
Another posted, “Now what he do that for?”
Though it’s unclear what may have transpired afterward, the security guard did look back at the female fan on the ground before the camera stopped rolling.
Ole Miss fans raiding the field on Saturday came at a financial cost, too.
The Southeastern Conference announced Sunday the school would be fined $100,000 for a violation of the league’s access to the competition area.
The penalty constitutes Ole Miss’ first violation of the policy, which states, “For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest may spectators enter the competition area.”
The fines increase with each violation, with $250,000 for a second offense and $500,000 for a third.
Ole Miss improved to 4-1 with Saturday’s win over LSU, which was the highest-scoring matchup in series history with more than 1,300 rushing yards combined between the Rebels and Tigers.
