Disney does it again! After 23 years, the animated film is coming to life. The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch released its official trailer on March 12 and is taking the internet by storm. The highly anticipated film will be released only in theaters May 23.

The glimpse at director Dean Fleischer Camp‘s adaptation of Lilo & Stitch gave fans a dose of nostalgia while teasing a fun film about the power of family. The trailer begins the same way as the original when Stitch (Chris Sanders), an experimental alien creature, goes rogue, escaping his cage, stealing a spaceship and crash-landing in Hawaii.

Lilo (Maia Kealoha) finds Stitch in an animal shelter, granting her wish of having a best friend. The trailer then breaks into a montage of Stitch’s unhinged behavior—causing car accidents, chasing chickens and slamming the fridge door in older sister Nani’s (Sydney Agudong) face. The aliens Stitch escaped from are still on the hunt to bring him back and take him away from his newfound family.

And, of course, the trailer references the original film’s motto: “Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten.”

While remakes of classic movies have been a tricky landscape to navigate, the trailer seems to have been well-received by fans on X.

While most comments about the trailer are positive, there were multiple complaints about the alien Pleakley (Billy Magnussen) no longer cross-dressing as a disguise on Earth.

One user wrote, “Ok fine, only criticism I have with the Lilo & Stitch trailer is how Pleakley has a human disguise instead of his cross-dressing. I better be seeing this in the film one way or another.”

To which another user responded, “If it doesn’t happen, the film’s an automatic 1/10.”

The change seemed to be the biggest issue fans noticed with the trailer.

However, most comments made about the film are by older users talking about how much the remake means to them; another user added, “my little inner child is sobbing because i love lilo and stitch.”

One thing’s for sure: all generations of Disney fans will be in attendance when the film hits theaters.
