Miami may be able to make some defensive tweaks, but it is hard to see it truly slowing down Nikola Jokic and this Denver team. Five Nuggets scored in double figures in their Game 1 win, led by Jokic with 27 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds on 8-12 shooting from the floor.
Another interesting note from Game 1 is that the Heat actually shot better from deep than Denver did, even though it didn’t feel like that watching the game. Miami finished the night 13-39 (33%) from 3-point land, while the Nuggets shot 8-27 (29.6%) from long range. Notable Heat shooters Max Strus (0-9) and Duncan Robinson (1-5) had bad games but Gabe Vincent (5-10), Kyle Lowry (3-6), and Haywood Highsmith (2-4) made up for it with good shooting nights. So even if Strus and Robinson return to their standard form, it’s hard to expect the other players to continue to shoot efficiently from deep.
Meanwhile, Michael Porter Jr. went 2-11 from beyond the arc and Jamal Murray was 2-7. If those two have average 3-point shooting games tonight, this one could get ugly, because there’s only so much Miami can do slow down Denver’s offensive attack.
It feels like the Nuggets weren’t even at their best in Game 1 and still won comfortably. I think Denver will play better tonight and pick up another double-digit win, so back the Nuggets to cover with the FanDuel Sportsbook promo code.
