The second day of the Sweet 16 tips off tonight in Dallas when the No. 2 seed Marquette Golden Eagles face the No. 11 seed NC State Wolfpack.
Fanatics Sportsbook is favoring Marquette by 6.5 points and that feels just a bit too high. The Golden Eagles should win this one, but NC State is playing well enough to take this down to the wire.
The Wolfpack only got into the NCAA Tournament by winning the ACC Tournament, and that run included non-fluky wins over Duke and North Carolina. Their 80-67 first round win over a good Texas Tech team was also very impressive. NC State is just playing really well right now with big man DJ Burns leading the way, while DJ Horne, Michael O’Connell and Casey Morsell lead the way from the backcourt.
Even though Marquette is a justified favorite tonight, the Golden Eagles have been a bit shaky in the tournament. Allowing No. 15 seed Western Kentucky to have a seven-point halftime lead in the first round is not what you want from a two seed and they only beat Colorado by four points. Marquette is a two seed for a reason, but a comfortable win over a red-hot NC State team seems unlikely.
