PORT ST. LUCIE — Francisco Alvarez stood at home plate watching his long drive die in front of the left field fence during live batting practice Wednesday.&nbsp;

In a good-natured jab, Alvarez let the pitcher, Kodai Senga, know that the wind at Clover Park had prevented the ball from traveling out. 

“That is a mispitch, so he needs to drive that thing out of here,” Senga later said through an interpreter.&nbsp;

Even before the Mets lost two starting pitchers to begin the season, a healthy Kodai Senga at or near the top of the rotation was considered important for the team.{ai:summary}Francisco Alvarez hit a long drive during live batting practice but fell short of a home run due to the wind at Clover Park.
