As Katie Holmes’ longtime stylist, Brie Welsh is right at home creating luxe everyday looks.
And with summer nearly here, the seasoned style pro teamed up with eBay to curate “watchlists” of the season’s hottest trends — including some inspired by A-list moments.
“I believe in taking inspiration, but not copying,” says Welch, who instead advises investing in “key pieces that you can wear time and again, and that will mix easily with lower-priced items.”
Those staple items, of course, will vary from person to person.
“Katie has her own sense of style, which really comes across in street style photos you might see of her,” Welch says of Holmes. “I do help curate her wardrobe [which] not only reflects my taste, but [also] hers.”
Below, we asked the wardrobe whiz to break down the biggest trends worth spending your precious shopping dollars on this summer, from utilitarian cargo pants to whimsical pastel pink.

“Functionality has always been key for some, but I’m seeing a more playful design aesthetic being mixed with utilitarian details. Items like Carhartt jackets, which saw a 29% search increase on eBay year over year, are great investment pieces. So are oversized cargo shorts and pants.”

“A floaty-meets-functional trend of bohemia is making its re-debut in an untraditional, chic way: By pairing billowing chiffon blouses and dresses with stomp-y clogs.”

“Denim is, indisputably, the ultimate classic. But there’s a clear favor reemerging for crisp, raw cuts. Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar surely had an influence in bringing the bootcut shape to the forefront for summer. The barrel shape still holds its ground, too.”

“I’m seeing a trend towards pastels that are moodier [and] in less sweet silhouettes. I am [also] seeing ballet pinks, from shoes to sheer layers. Searches for the shade on eBay jumped 42%, while buttery yellow dresses saw a 656% surge.”
