NextImg:Exclusive | Jacob Javits’ former NYC home returns to market for $5.99M after a price chop

This Sutton Place duplex, once the home of the late Sen. Jacob K. Javits and his wife Marion, has hit the market again with an asking price of $5.99 million.

The elegant co-op at 322 E. 57th St. had been pulled last July after various attempts to sell, including last May when it was asking the same price.

Originally listed for $7.2 million back in September 2022, the price saw several adjustments, dipping to $6.49 million by September 2023, and finally settling at $5.99 million the next month.

Designed by the renowned Art Deco architect Joseph Urban in 1933, this 3,300-square-foot residence has had its share of fame.

In 2017, it was listed for $5.2 million and sold for $4.4 million a year later.

The current owner, Dorothy Berwin, a film art collector and executive producer, purchased it in 2018 for the same $4.4 million.

Berwin transformed the space, blending modern amenities with historic Art Deco elements under the guidance of Sandra Arndt from Studio AKTE.

The duplex boasts four bedrooms and three bathrooms, with notable features like an expansive great room with 18-foot ceilings and a restored woodburning fireplace.

The onetime cigar room of Javits, for whom the Javits Center is named, has been revamped into a stylish media room with gray velvet and silvery lacquer.

“It’s the greatest home I have ever had in so many ways. Now, with the kids growing up and moving and a home in upstate New York, it’s time to downsize and do something else fabulous in the city,” Berwin previously told The Post’s Gimme Shelter, explaining her decision to sell.

The building itself is a piece of New York history, hosting celebrities like Orson Welles and Clay Felker, along with artist Tamara de Lempicka and Ambassador Georgette Mosbacher.

The 22-story structure with a neo-classical limestone facade houses only 20 units, adding to its exclusivity.

It features a private elevator landing, a grand foyer with a curved Lucite Bakelite staircase, and a wet bar. The upper level provides a panoramic view of the living area below, alongside an open dining area and a windowed kitchen.

Noble Black and Erik Ternon of Douglas Elliman hold the listing.
