The Yankees are closing in on a replacement for legendary radio play-by-play broadcaster John Sterling.

A deal won’t be finalized until after the 2024 season concludes as the Yankees head toward the playoffs.

Other candidates include Ricky Ricardo, who is part of the group that has replaced Sterling this season, and Marlins TV announcer Paul Severino, a source said.

The person who is chosen will work alongside Suzyn Waldman, who has been calling games in the Yankees radio booth since 2005.

The Seattle Times previously reported Sims has interviewed for the job.

Sterling retired earlier this season after a legendary run, but will return for the Yankees’ postseason stretch.

“I miss meeting with all the other broadcasters and writers and people behind the scenes,” Sterling told WFAN of his decision to return. “I kind of miss that. And I’ll tell you what I really miss is broadcasting with Suzyn, who is such a fabulous partner and we were together for so long. This will give me a chance at a last hurrah, and work with Suzyn again.”

Sims, 71, was a show host for the Yankees’ flagship station, WFAN, earlier in his career.
