Aaron Boone’s defense of Anthony Volpe’s shortstop play hasn’t wavered, even as the errors — all 13 of them, tied for the second most in the majors entering Monday — stacked together.

He remained adamant that Volpe is still a “top shortstop” in a postgame news conference last week, a night when another Volpe error cost the Yankees against the Blue Jays. He ripped the “over the top” criticism that the 24-year-old faced in a “Talkin’ Yanks” podcast last week, an episode which also featured his “I-don’t-care-what-you-want” rant when his team’s effort was questioned.

And while Boone’s support — many times teetering between rational and delusional — “means the world to Volpe,” he told The Post that “I wish he didn’t ever have to need to have my back.”

He has tried to have a “healthy frustration” regarding what has gone wrong in the field. To keep working toward fixing it. To creating a scenario where, for the first time this season, Volpe’s performances both at the plate and in the field consistently mirror what the Yankees envisioned.
