NextImg:Exclusive | Adam Duvall will opt to retire if his MLB free agency price isn’t met

SURPRISE, Az. — Adam Duvall, an 11-year major league outfielder, was offered a $1 million contract by the Royals with a chance to make another $1 million in performance bonuses.

But he turned it down and has informed teams that if he is not guaranteed at least $3 million, he is going to retire, two sources told The Post.

The $3 million would represent what Duvall, 36, made last season with the Braves.

The righty-hitter’s stance has overtones to what Anthony Rizzo recently told The Athletic — that it would be bad for future player pay if he undersold what he thought he was worth.

Duvall did not have a good overall season with the Braves hitting .182 with a .569 OPS. But he continued his career-long strength in hitting lefties with a slash line of .252/.342/.514.

The Royals were hoping to add Duvall to hit in the middle of their order against lefty starters.

Duvall, a key member of the Braves’ 2021 championship club, has hit 195 career homers, including 11 last season.
