Legendary Phillies manager Charlie Manuel suffered a stroke while undergoing a medical procedure in Florida on Saturday, the team announced.

Staff at the hospital saw Manuel immediately and were able to remove a blood clot, per the team.

“The next 24 hours will be crucial to his recovery, and Charlie’s family asks that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers at this time,” the team said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

It was not immediately clear what medical procedure Manuel, 79, was undergoing.

Manuel has battled various health issues in his life, suffering from a heart attack, infected colon and kidney cancer.

Manuel played six seasons in the majors with the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers from 1969-75, but became most known for his successful managerial stints in Cleveland and Philadelphia.
