Former NFL defensive back Alex Brown has been sentenced to four months in jail after a car accident in which he had a high blood-alcohol level and injured an ex-teammate.
Brown, now 26, pled nolo contendre — accepting the conviction, but not admitting guilt — to a car wreck from 2021 in which he was accused of having a .211 BAC and driving the wrong way on a highway in a head on collision in Wayne County, Mi.
The legal limit to drive is a .08 BAC.
WDIV-TV in Detroit first reported Brown’s plea.
Former Lions tight end Charlie Taumoepeau was a passenger in Brown’s car.
According to the Detroit Free-Press, Taumoepeau suffered a fractured fibula and neck injury in the car crash, and just returned to football, in the XFL, this year.
The 27-year-old man whose car was struck by Brown also sustained leg injuries.
Brown was a member of the Lions at the time and was released immediately following the accident.
The defensive back played in college at South Carolina State and appeared in three regular season games for the Chiefs in 2019.
Brown appeared in all of the Chiefs’ playoff games that season, including their Super Bowl victory over the Niners.
He also spent time in camp or on the practice squad for the Niners, Eagles and Jets, and signed with the Edmonton Elks in the CFL last November.
