They’re a chip off the old cuke.
McDonald’s burgers have their share of unique qualities — anyone whose scarfed down at least a few could probably pick them out of a tasting lineup with a blindfold on.
The pickle slices preferred by the fast food heavyweight have a sizable role to play in delivering that distinctive taste — a sight different from the typical sweet chip you’ll pluck out of a jar at your next summer picnic.
Mike Haracz, a one-time corporate chef for McDonald’s who now spends his time on TikTok (@chefmikeharacz) sharing insider secrets and hacks for fans of his former employer, has now plumbed the briny depths to discover the perfect pickle dupe for those looking to recreate MickeyD’s classic burger at home, Eat This, Not That! reported.
And, good news, Haracz revealed in a recent video that has snagged more than 300,000 views — the key to perfection is hiding in plain sight, right in your local grocery or superstore.
The hamburger helper explains in the video that he started by looking at the ingredient list for McDonald’s pickles, then comparing it with a range of other brands available to consumers. His search, which also involved tasting, brought him to one, relatively small label — Best Maid Hamburger Slices, made in Fort Worth, Texas.
Advertising themselves as brimming with “salty dill flavor,” the winning chips are crinkle-cut, which is different than you’ll find at McDonald’s, where they just use a regular slicer.
Never fear, says Haracz — Best Maid tastes “absolutely identical” to the real thing. And if you’re really a stickler for pickle perfection, you can always opt for the whole dill pickles and slice them yourself.
You can purchase Best Maid pickles on their own website, or from Amazon.
Haracz previously surprised social media users with a range of revelations reaped during his time toiling under the Golden Arches — everything from secrets of the McRib to the trick to making America’s most iconic shoestring fries at home.
