Game on. Mortal Kombat 2, the follow-up to Mortal Kombat (2021) is hitting theaters and IMAX on Oct. 24, per Entertainment Weekly. Based on the ’90s fighting video game franchise of the same name, this new installment also comes from director Simon McQuoid.

Mortal Kombat co-creator and NetherRealm Studios head Ed Boon told EW that fans can anticipate “a lot of twists” that will “keep you on your toes.”

Now, thanks to EW, we have a first look at what the highly anticipated movie will look like, plus who is playing the beloved characters and what the movie has in store for the franchise’s biggest fans.

Eager to hear more about Mortal Kombat 2? Here is everything we know.

EW announced that Karl Urban, Martyn Ford and Adeline Rudolph are joining the cast of the new film as Johnny Cage — who was missing from the 2021 film — Shao Kahn (the Outworld emperor), and Kitana, respectively.

A poster for the film was teased on the film franchise’s X account in February. Among the franchise’s returning stars from the Mortal Kombat 2021 cast listed on the IMDb page are Hiroyuki Sanada, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Jessica McNamee, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin and Josh Lawson.

The Mortal Kombat live action films kicked off with 1995’s Mortal Kombat, which is available to rent or buy on Apple TV, the Microsoft Store, and Prime Video. The same goes for 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. However, the 2021 Mortal Kombat is streaming on Max.

The franchise also features four existing animated films — Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpions Revenge (2020), Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms (2021), Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind (2022), and Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match (2023) — as well as a potential upcoming addition, Mortal Kombat Legends: Fall of Edenia.
