Disney+ is stepping back into the world of Star Wars with a second season of Andor. The series is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which precedes the first Star Wars movie, A New Hope.
Season 1 of Andor, released in 2022, tells the story of how the Rebellion emerged five years before Rogue One and A New Hope. Cassian Andor is a Rebel hero and Alliance Intelligence officer whose planet, Ferrix, retaliates against the Empire. His mission aligns with rebel freedom fighter Luther Rael and Mon Mothma, senator from Chandrila and leader of the Rebel Alliance.
Other key players have a different agenda, including Syril Karn, a servant for the Empire who hopes to climb the ranks, and Dedra Meero, a lieutenant and supervisor in the Imperial Security Bureau.
Season 2 will cover the four years of Andor’s life leading up to Rogue One. There will be time jumps as large as one year every episode.
The plot has not been confirmed yet for Andor Season 2, and no trailer has been released. According to private teaser footage from Star Wars Celebration in April 2023, Andor will embark on several undercover missions and reunite with Bix Caleen. Meanwhile, Syril Karn continues to seek out Andor, and Rebels Vel Sartha and Cinta Kaz might be held hostage by the Empire.
Stellan Skarsgård (Luthen Rael) told Total Film that Season 2 will end where Rogue One starts. “I think it will be very good as already the first one was satisfying for me because it’s sort of Star Wars for grown-ups,” said Skarsgård. “It’s a more realistic and complicated society that they’re living in and the claustrophobia of the fascist regime is palpable. I think we have a good season ahead of us.”
Diego Luna (Cassian Andor), Kyle Soller (Syril Karn), Stellan Skarsgård (Luthen Rael), Denise Gough (Dedra Meero), and Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma) will be reprising their roles in Season 2.
At Disney’s D23 fan event in August, first-look footage revealed that Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) from Rogue One will join the cast of Andor. Alan Tudyk will also return as Rogue One’s droid, K-2SO.
There will be 12 episodes in the second season of Andor. Season 1 of the series also has 12 episodes ranging from 38 to 57 minutes.
Season 2 will feature four separate three-episode arcs, each supposedly moving the story forward a year.
Andor Season 2 will likely be available exclusively on Disney+ before spring 2025. In the meantime, you can stream the entire Star Wars franchise, along with the first season of Andor, on the platform.
The release of Season 2 was delayed due to a pause in production from the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The season began filming in November 2022 but was stopped in July 2023 when the actors went on strike. Production resumed in January 2024 and finished on February 9.
Although nothing has been confirmed, there will most likely not be a third season, since the second season concludes where Rogue One begins.
