Beef

Beef has generated a ton of buzz since debuting last April.

The Netflix drama has swept awards season thus far, taking home three Golden Globes, four Critics Choice awards, eight Emmys, two Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards, and two Independent Spirit awards.

Created by Lee Sung Jin, Beef‘s first season cast features the talents of Steven Yeun, Ali Wong, David Choe, Young Mazino, Ashley Park, and Joseph Lee. The series “follows the aftermath of a road rage incident between two strangers,” particularly Danny Cho (Yeun) and Amy Lau (Wong), per its synopsis. The storyline was inspired by Lee’s own experience, when a white BMW “honked at [him], cursed at [him] and drove away,” per Netflix’s Tudum.

“And for some reason on that day, I was like, ‘I’m going to follow you,” Lee continued explaining at the 2023 South by Southwest festival. Noting that we “live in such subjective realities and we project so much onto people that we don’t know all the time,” he conceived the idea for the show.

While the show was deemed a “limited series,” Lee told Deadline last April that the Season 1 finale was “self-contained,” and had pictured the series as an anthology

So, will there be a Season 2 of Beef? When will it air? And who would star in the next installment? Here’s everything we know so far.

Beef Season 2 has yet to be officially confirmed. However, Lee told The Hollywood Reporter last July that he’d “love to make more,” per TV Insider.

“We initially pitched the show as an anthology series where every season is a new beef with new characters,” he explained. “At the same time, I really love Danny and Amy and George (Lee) and Paul [Young Mazino] and the world we created. So, I’m really open to it all.”

Additionally, Variety reported last November that Lee signed a “multi-year overall deal” with Netflix, involving film and TV ventures, per Good Housekeeping.

While a sophomore season has yet to be confirmed, there has been talk of its prospective stars. A new report from Deadline‘s “The Dish” speculates that next season may follow “two feuding couples”: the first of which suspected to be played by Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton, and the second portrayed by Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal. However, the report also acknowledged that “admittedly, this is early, and no deals are in place.”

Again, while Season 2 is not 100% confirmed, the aforementioned Deadline report mentioned that they “understand that a limited season’s worth of scripts were just turned in or are about to be and that Netflix and A24 are ready to get the second season into production by late summer or fall.”
