Barbie Ferreira‘s Euphoria character, Kat Hernandez, quickly became a fan favorite as the quietly chaotic teenager moonlighting as a dominatrix on the hit HBO series. So, it came as a shock when the actress announced she was stepping away from the hit HBO series after just two seasons.

Now, Ferreira is finally breaking her silence to dispel rumors about the on-set drama that allegedly led her to leave the show. The actress addressed the situation during a recent appearance on The Viall Files, where she claimed that her exit from the series “was very mutual.”

“It wasn’t just my choice,” she said. “There was just nowhere to go and I think instead of me just lingering around for nine months, I think it was best for both of us that we just kind of ended it there.”

She continued, “But you don’t want to ruin a good thing. Everyone decided there was nowhere to go and that’s hard, obviously. Again, with acting, things happen all the time and you have to have a thick skin and just make the right decisions for you and your career.”

By the end of Season 2, Kat’s identity crisis hits a critical point that impacts her relationship with Ethan (Austin Abrams) as she struggles to come to terms with her body image and self esteem. But Kat’s personal drama paled in comparison to what Rue (Zendaya), Fez (Angus Cloud), and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) were simultaneously going through, making the character feel forgotten and cast aside.

But Ferreira denied she ever walked off set and maintains she’s still on good terms with her former co-stars.

“I never walked off set, there was never anything like that,” she stated on the podcast. “I absolutely never did that. You could ask the hundreds of people who were there every day.”

Ferreira has long stated her exit from the show was a “mutual decision.” She previously claimed that she opted to leave when it became a “struggle” to continue her character’s story.

“I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show,” Ferreira said at the time. “I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either.”

The show has long been mired in rumors of drama and on-set confusion, with many accusations leveled against series creator and writer Sam Levinson.

But production on Euphoria Season 3 finally began in February after an almost three-year hiatus, which means Rue and the gang will be back on HBO before we know it.
