The Big 12 championship is on the line at AT&T Stadium when the No. 7 Texas Longhorns play the No. 18 Oklahoma State Cowboys.
ESPN BET lists Texas as a 15-point favorite in this one. While I think the Longhorns will win, this is way too high of a spread and I think Oklahoma State will cover.
The Longhorns do have four blowout conference wins on their resume, but they’ve also been locked in some tight games against the upper half of the league. They lost to Oklahoma, beat Houston by seven, beat K-State and TCU by three, and then won by 10 over Iowa State, and those are all solid wins, but it shows how Texas can still be in close games. Oklahoma State is far more comparable to OU and KSU than the bad Baylor and BYU teams that the Longhorns smashed.
A big reason Oklahoma State made it to this point is running back Ollie Gordon II. He leads college football with 1,580 yards and 20 touchdowns, and surpassed 100 yards rushing in all but one Big 12 game. If the Cowboys can hang around in this game, Gordon II will play a big role this afternoon.
This really comes down to Texas not blowing out good teams this season. Again, I’d be surprised if OSU actually won this game, but a 10-point loss or so seems reasonable, which is why I like the Cowboys to cover today.
