This has been a good year for television. Unfortunately for fans, that also means this year’s biggest series will be facing some steep competition at the 77th annual Primetime Emmy Awards this coming September.
All eyes are on Apple TV+, which had a standout year thanks to the return of Severance and the debut of Seth Rogen‘s celebrated Hollywood satire The Studio. Severance already earned 14 nominations and two wins in 2024 for its debut season, so it will surely receive several nominations for the highly anticipated new season that finally premiered earlier this year.
But HBO’s The Pitt may have stolen some of Severance‘s thunder when it premiered this year. This new ensemble drama isn’t the only competition Severance is facing at the Primetime Emmy Awards; The Last of Us, The Penguin, and The White Lotus are also sure to garner their own nods this year.
And it wouldn’t be the Emmys without the usual suspects. The Bear Season 3 is eligible for nomination, which means Liza Colón-Zayas could receive some recognition for her emotional turn in the standalone episode “Napkins.” Only Murders in the Building, Abbott Elementary, and Hacks have yet to walk away from the Emmys without a win in hand.
Now, the wait is finally over. What We Do In The Shadows star Harvey Guillén and Running Point actress Brenda Song will be presenting the Primetime Emmy nominees Tuesday, July 15. A livestream is available via YouTube and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ website beginning at 8:30 AM PT/11:30 AM ET.
Comedian Nate Bargatze will host the Emmys, which take place Sunday, Sept. 14, at 8/7c. Fans at home can tune in on CBS or stream it live via Paramount+.
