NextImg:Elton John wraps up final tour, says fans will forever be in his ‘head, heart and soul’

Legendary rocker Elton John wrapped up his final tour in Stockholm Saturday night, telling fans around the globe they’d forever remain in his “head, heart and soul.”

The iconic British singer — who during a five-decade-long career won five Grammys and sold more than 300 million records — reportedly ended the show with one of his hugest hits, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”

“It’s been my lifeblood to play for you guys, and you’ve been absolutely magnificent,” John told the audience at Sweden’s Tele2 Arena, according to the BBC.

The 76-year-old “Candle in the Wind” singer has said his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour — which began in North America five years ago and led to more than 300 shows worldwide — would be his last.

He kicked off the Stockholm concert with “Bennie and the Jets,” then ran through his most beloved hits, including “Rocket Man,” “Tiny Dancer,” “Your Song” and “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” before hitting the emotional career-closer.

Toward the end of the two-hour show, John said he’d had “52 years of pure joy playing music,” but that he’d never tour again — though the esteemed showman didn’t discount the possibility of playing one-off shows in the future, the BBC reported.

Still, the tributes rolled in.

In a video message played at the concert, Chris Martin of Coldplay thanked the “Crocodile Rock” singer for all he’s done over the years.

“From all the bands and artists you’ve helped and inspired, we love you so much,” Martin said, also citing John’s work with the Aids Foundation. “We are so grateful.”

Meanwhile, John heaped compliments on his band and crew, some of whom have been with him for years, the BBC noted.

“They’re really incredible,” the rocker said. “And they are the best, I tell you, the best.”

The farewell tour was one of the highest-grossing tours in history, reaching ticket sales of more than $900 million, according to Billboard magazine.

Still, the father-of-two said it was time to call it quits.

“I want to appreciate my family, my sons, my husband, everything,” he said. “I’ve earned it.”

On his Instagram page, John posted a 2018 interview in which he told CNN’s Anderson Cooper he was done after the Stockholm show.

“What a journey this tour has been and now we find ourselves at the end of it,” he wrote in the Saturday post. “Tonight is the final night.”
