The trumpets for Edwin Diaz at Citi Field officially won’t blare until 2024.

The Mets closer will not try to pitch in a game this season, <a href="https://twitter.com/AnthonyDiComo/status/1703874036105695516" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo</a>.

Diaz will continue to throw bullpen sessions through September and is expected back next season.

There was thought that Diaz, who suffered a torn patella tendon during an on-field celebration at the World Baseball Classic in March,<a href="https://nypost.com/2023/09/07/mets-edwin-diaz-takes-another-step-toward-potential-return/"> would try to pitch in a game before the end of 2023</a> to get his feet wet before spring training.&nbsp;

But it appears he and the Mets have opted against it.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
