NextImg:Eagles made ‘fairly aggressive’ push for Micah Parsons trade

There was a chance Micah Parsons could have stayed in the NFC East.

When Parsons was on the market this summer, prior to his blockbuster trade from the Dallas Cowboys to the Green Bay Packers, the Philadelphia Eagles made a push for a deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday.

Sources told ESPN, though, that Dallas — not surprisingly — did not want to move him to a division rival.

On “Get Up”, Schefter said the Eagles were “fairly aggressive in trying to trade for Parsons.”

He ended up going to the Packers following a lengthy battle between Parsons and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones regarding a new contract.

Green Bay acquired Parsons in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks (2026 and 2027).

The Packers then signed Parsons, a four-time Pro Bowler, to a four-year, $188 million deal.

The stunning move came after Parsons requested a trade in August, although few believed Jones would send the former No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Dallas.

But instead of coming to an agreement on a long-term deal — as Jones did with quarterback Dak Prescott prior to last season — Parsons landed in Green Bay, where he potentially shifts the balance of power in the NFC North.

Parsons’ time with the Cowboys ended last Thursday and after the trade, Jones — who also acts as the team’s general manager — said the trade would help the team win immediately.

“This was a move to get us successful in the playoffs,” Jones said. “This was a move to be better on defense, stopping the run. This was a move to, if we get behind, not be run on. And it was a deliberate move, a well-thought-out move to make this happen.”
