NextImg:Eagles’ A.J. Brown speaks out on shockingly quiet opening night

A lot of fantasy football owners are not pleased with A.J. Brown’s Week 1 performance.

But Brown said there’s only so much he “can control.”

In the Eagles’ 24-20 win over the Cowboys to open the 2025 NFL season on Thursday night, Brown received one target from starting quarterback Jalen Hurts — making one catch for eight yards.

Brown, after the victory, said it’s quite literally out of his hands.

“You know, that’s not something I can control,” Brown, who topped 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons with the Eagles, said after the game, according to Penn Live. “What I can control is my effort for when the ball does come my way.”

For what it’s worth, Hurts wasn’t exactly torching the Micah Parsons-less Cowboys defense with his arm.

The Super Bowl-winning signal-caller ended the evening — which included a long weather delay — by completing 19-of-23 passes, accumulating just 152 passing yards and zero visits to the end zone through the air.

He did, however, run for 62 yards through 14 carries and scored twice on the ground.

Running back Saquon Barkley also ran in one touchdown as part of his 60 yards on 18 attempts.

Ultimately, it was Jahan Dotson — not even Brown’s high-profile running mate at receiver, DeVonta Smith — who paced the Eagles’ receivers, bringing in a team-best 59 yards on three receptions.

Smith ended the night with just three catches for 16 yards.

Tight end Dallas Goedert, although he caught seven passes, only accumulated 44 receiving yards.

“[The Cowboys] did a good job of matching some of our routes,” head coach Nick Sirianni said after the game. “They did a good job of matching some things and taking away A.J. We had some different things to him that Jalen had to get through some progressions, and I think Jalen did a really nice job getting through his progressions tonight and then made some plays with his legs as well.”
