St. John’s spring of retooling its roster began with Arizona State transfer Joson Sanon, a dynamic wing who has the potential to be a first-round NBA draft pick.

It also included North Carolina’s Ian Jackson, a former top 10 high school prospect from The Bronx; Providence’s Bryce Hopkins, an All-Big East first-team selection in 2022-23; and Cincinnati forward Dillon Mitchell, considered one of the premier athletes in the country.

That quartet, along with Stanford sharpshooter Oziyah Sellers, gave the Johnnies one of the nation’s premier transfer classes.

Their last Division I transfer didn’t garner nearly as much buzz. Dylan Darling’s decision didn’t create any extra national hype. But the addition of the 6-foot-1 Idaho State guard could prove to be one the most significant additions of the Red Storm’s blockbuster offseason haul.
