Off the court, Dwyane Wade is a doting dad to five children.
Not only does the retired NBA player have four biological kids at home, whom he shares with Siohvaughn Funches, Aja Metoyer and Gabrielle Union, but he also obtained custody of his nephew.
The Olympian acknowledged in an August 2023 interview with CNBC that he has “good moments” and “not so good moments” as a father.
“I just try to show up. Whatever that looks like,” Wade explained at the time. “I show up in moments that I know are important to them.
“I show up by listening sometimes. Just shutting my mouth,” he continued. “Showing up is half the battle. … Because you’re there and you’re present, and it’s important.”
Page Six is breaking down the former athlete’s blended family below.
In 2011, Wade obtained full custody of his sister Deanna Morris’ son, Dahveon.
While Dahveon stays mostly out of the spotlight, Gabrielle Union posted an Instagram photo in 2019 while sending him off to prom.
He attended Sierra Canyon High School with his cousin Zaire.
Dwyane married his high school sweetheart, Siohvaughn Funches, in 2002, the same year that the couple welcomed son Zaire.
The teen played basketball with LeBron James’ eldest son, Bronny, in high school — and was ultimately drafted by the Salt Lake City Stars in 2021.
He called the moment “surreal” in an NBA interview, gushing, “Just to have the whole family there, it was a great feeling.”
Five years after Zaire arrived, Funches gave birth to Zaya. When she and Dwyane called it quits that same year, the former point guard obtained full custody of the kids.
Dwyane revealed on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” in February 2020 that Zaya had come out as trans and changed her name.

“[Union and I] are proud allies,” he explained at the time. “We take our roles and our responsibilities as parents very seriously.”
In 2022, Dwyane filed to legally change Zaya’s name and gender — and battled Funches in court when she accused him of exploiting their youngest child.
The changes were granted in February 2023.
Zaya, in her teen years, has pursued a modeling career, covering Dazed magazine in March 2023 and walking a Miu Miu runway that same month.
Dwyane and Union — who had been dating since 2009 and got married in 2014 — were on a break when he conceived a child with Aja Metoyer. The little one was born in November 2013 and named Xavier.
At the time, the former professional basketball player “tried to break up” with Union instead of telling her the truth — before ultimately sitting down “with [her] [to] have that conversation.”
The actress wrote in her “You Got Anything Stronger” memoir that while she was “devastated” by the reveal, they “gathered what [they] could” to “remake” their relationship.
Amid Xavier’s conception and birth, Union had been struggling to have a child of her own, telling readers that she suffered “eight or nine miscarriages.”
The “Bring It On” star, who wed Dwyane in 2014, ultimately welcomed a baby girl named Kaavia via surrogate in November 2018.
Union told Women’s Health magazine in February of the following year that she picked a gestational carrier with a love of reading instead of “car[ing] about the race, religion or food habits.”
She went on to say that she was ready for motherhood and had already “done it well” with her stepchildren.
“Now I’m in the right mindset and mental space, and I’m open to being the best mom I can be,” Union gushed.
She and Dwyane often post their daughter on social media, with the little one famous for her “Shady Baby” expressions.
