Two men were arrested for drag racing at outrageous speeds in their daddy’s car on a Florida turnpike over the weekend, according to police.
Luis Alejandro Lozano-Figueroa, 20, and Mario Alberto Paz-Gil, 23, were clocked going 199 miles per hour in a red 2016 Chevrolet Camaro before police caught up with them — about 130 miles per hour over the 70-mile-per-hour speed limit on a road bordering a residential neighborhood and an elementary school.
The duo were picked up around 1 a.m. Saturday after nearby residents called police to report a pair of cars that appeared to be street racing nearby, according to an arrest affidavit from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
A responding officer pulled in behind the Camaro and another black car as they waited at a stoplight, then when the light turned green they took off.
“The two vehicles began drag racing by accelerating speeds from a point side by side in a competitive attempt to outdistance each other for the purpose of comparing the relative speeds or power of acceleration of their motor vehicles within a certain distance or time,” the report read.
Lozano-Figueroa was behind the wheel of the Camaro going nearly 200mph, while Paz-Gil rode in the passenger seat.
They were charged with racing on a highway and booked at the Osceola County Jail, with Lozano-Figueroa being held on $5,000 bond.
A third person who was underage was also in the car but was released to their parents after the arrest.
The Camaro was registered to Lozano-Figueroa’s father.
While searching the car, police located a video camera and a bracket on the rear window they said Lozano-Figueroa used to film and post videos to his Instagram account.
“These two young men quickly found out what happens when you engage in unlawful and dangerous street racing in Orange County,” police said in a post on X.
“We have ZERO TOLERANCE for street racing here in Orange County.”
Police could not provide information on what became of the second car involved in the race.
