Philadelphia is taking a flyer on one of the flashiest young players in the NHL.

The Ducks have traded Trevor Zegras to the Flyers, the teams announced on Monday.

In return for the 24-year-old forward, Anaheim has received center Ryan Poehling, the 45th overall pick in this year’s draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft.

Zegras was outstanding in his first two full seasons in the NHL, rattling off back-to-back 20-goal, 60-point campaigns in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

His production has dropped off in the two seasons since, though, due in large part to injury issues that have kept him off the ice.

The Boston University product played just 31 games in 2023-24, notching only 15 points, and missed six weeks in 2024-25 due to a torn meniscus in his right knee.

In the 57 games he did play last season, he scored 12 goals and dished 20 assists.

With the Flyers, Zegras joins an exciting young core that includes 20-year-old Russian star Matvei Michkov and 23-year-old Tyson Foerster.

Like the Ducks, though, Philadelphia did not make the playoffs this past season.

Both teams are rebuilding, although Anaheim significantly improved its roster earlier this offseason by trading for Rangers star Chris Kreider.

And the two franchises have done business with one another in the past few years.

When top Flyers prospect Cutter Gauthier shockingly asked out of Philadelphia while still at Boston College, the team traded the rights to Gauthier to Anaheim in exchange for defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a 2025 second-rounder.

With the Flyers, Zegras will look to rekindle the magic he put on display early in his career, including several highlight-reel goals that took the hockey world by storm.

Zegras has shown a knack for scoring incredible lacrosse-style “Michigan” goals, although perhaps the most impressive play of his career was an assist, when he lobbed the puck from behind the net for his teammate to whack home in December 2021.

With a change of scenery and some talented new teammates, he’ll look to do more of that on Broad Street.
