When actress and dancer Maddie Ziegler was a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show, she successfully brought host Drew Barrymore to the verge of tears during a conversation in which she gushed about Barrymore’s influence on her life.
Barrymore began the segment by thanking Ziegler for sending Barrymore’s daughters copies of the books she’s written, saying how much it meant to their family because her girls are huge fans of Ziegler.
“I fangirl out on you, as do my daughters Olive and Frankie,” Barrymore told Ziegler, “but there was something that I couldn’t believe I saw with my own two eyes, it was your Halloween costume.
“You guys, you’re not gonna believe this, look at the visual,” she said. “That is Maddie in sort of an ode to a photograph that I had done. What — why? How did I get so lucky to be anywhere in your mood board?” Barrymore asked Ziegler.
Ziegler, who had recreated a photoshoot of Barrymore with flowers in her hair, replied, “I was like, I want to just dress up as someone iconic,” adding, “and we just kept going back to you, I just think you’re the coolest to ever do it.”
She admitted, “Even to this day, all my Pinterest boards have you on them, all your fashion looks are all of my references, I admire you, I just think you’re incredible.”
Barrymore, getting teary-eyed, told her guest, “My daughters and I love you, I don’t know what to say.”
As her voice wavered, she told Ziegler, “The fact that you would say that to me while they’re here, I don’t know what to say but the humblest thank you.”
