Drew Barrymore shared a touching moment with a woman from her past during a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

In a video shared on the show’s official Instagram page, the woman in the audience explained that their paths first crossed four years ago on a flight.

“When I met you, you were crying in my galley, I was your flight attendant four years ago,” the woman in the audience explained. “And we sat in my galley and you cried and cried because you were going through so much, and here I’m crying on your show now.”

Barrymore then asked if she remembered what she was “going through” at the time that made her so emotional.

“Yes I do, I do,” she answered. “You were just bawling and I was just holding you.”

Barrymore then joined her in the audience and sat down next to her, where they shared a tearful moment together.

“Yeah, that was a really, really hard year,” Barrymore confessed as she started to grow emotional. “It was actually the year I stopped drinking.”

Barrymore stopped drinking in 2019 when she first got her daytime talk show. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, she admitted that she felt like she couldn’t handle the show unless she was “in a really clear place.” Her decision to quit drinking came some time after her friends confronted her about her drinking problem and worsening depression.

“You know, when you stop drinking it’s not like all your problems go away. There’s a ton of work to be done,” she said, addressing the Barrymore Show audience. “It’s a way to honor yourself and be consistent and let the room in for other things. But doesn’t it seem that the biggest first step is the awareness, not [being] in denial, the listening to the thing.”

She went on to say that alcohol was a “poison” for her. “I turned to it because I didn’t want to feel. I felt better when I drank. So I would turn to it,” she said.

Barrymore seized the moment to speak candidly on her journey to sobriety, saying honesty and self awareness were huge parts to her recovery.

The touching reunion ended with Barrymore asking the women for her phone number, sparking laughs from the audience.

“There was a reason we met that day. Thank you for letting me be so honest and transparent with you then, and thank you for being that with me now,” Barrymore told her.

“I don’t think we’re going to get anywhere unless we’re honest with ourselves and each other so,” she said. “I love you and I’m so glad you’re here.”
