Drew Barrymore and Brooke Shields grew up in Hollywood around the same time — so it’s no surprise that Barrymore was sometimes mistaken for Shields.

The Blue Lagoon star stopped by this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show to promote her new hair care line, Commence, which is made for women over 40. She and Barrymore even tested the product on two lucky audience members, one of whom accidentally referred to Barrymore as “Brooke.”

“You know what’s so funny? Debbie called me Brooke,” Barrymore said. “You don’t understand! When I was young, people would call me Brooke because the most famous, beautiful, outstanding, young woman in the business was Brooke Shields. And I, at my little stature and not being Brooke Shields, I was like, ‘I know, I am Brooke.’”

The last time Shields appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show was in April 2023 to promote her Pretty Baby documentary. The interview garnered a lot of buzz as the two women discussed growing up as child stars with complicated relationships with their mothers.

Barrymore referred to Shields’ mother as the “original momager,” who paved the way for her own mother to become her manager.

“We both had mothers who we needed to navigate and keep alive and take care of,” Shields added at the time. “They were broken.”

Barrymore even dished on one of the more unusual things her mom did when she was growing up.

“I was so confused about sexuality because my mom went and dated my boyfriends,” she revealed, before speculating that her mom “might have been so enamored” with her that she “actually wanted to be with the people” that she was with.

Despite everything, Barrymore could still find the bright side in the situation.

“They’re our moms! They gave us life,” she said. “And if my mom hadn’t schlepped me to every audition and become my manager, I might not be sitting here right now, and there’s nowhere on earth I’d rather be.”

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
