Drew Barrymore is holding open and honest conversations about aging and menopause on her eponymous daytime talk show. This morning, the actress invited stars Brooke Shields and Naomi Watts to The Drew Barrymore Show to talk about their experience with the subject.

“Another important piece of it is this belief that we are not just menopause,” Shields said at one point during their chat. “What happens is we’re either the ingenue or it jumps from your 20s to Depends or dentures.”

Barrymore, who is turning 50 next month, said she was recently asked to do ads for an incontinence company.

“I did too. I got that at 50, though,” Shields said, to which Barrymore replied, “I’m 50!”

Shields, however, joked that she was doing everything she could not to laugh at the proposal since she knew she would wet her pants.

That’s when Barrymore shared her own story with incontinence.

“It happened this morning!” she exclaimed. “I was brushing my teeth with my daughter Frankie and I laughed and piddle came out. And I was like, ‘Maybe I should’ve taken that gig.’”

Barrymore first opened up about her experience with perimenopause the last time Watts appeared on her talk show in October 2022. “As someone who’s in the dead heat of perimenopause, I am ready for this,” Barrymore told the actress, who was promoting her skincare line that was designed specifically for pre-menopausal and menopausal women.

Barrymore said at the time that she felt “crazy” and even “cried” that morning over air conditioning.

“Lately I feel like my body, my belly is full of, some type of, I don’t know, I would call it cortisol or cottage cheese, I’m not sure which it is. But, like, it’s not my belly. And it doesn’t matter what I eat,” she said, joking that she had also “lost” her mind.

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
